Baylor University honors ‘RG3
Robert Griffin, III, Baylor’s 2011 Heisman Trophy Recipient, was honored with a monumental portrait bronze sculpture. It was unveiled at the opening of the new McLane Football Stadium at Baylor University, Waco, TX, on August 31, 2014. Thereafter, the first game was held in the new stadium. President George W. Bush and other dignataries were present for this first game.
The RG3 bronze statue was created by native West-Texas sculptor Tom White, out of his current studio in Prescott Valley, Arizona.
The Robert Griffin, III statue was made possible by the generous donations of Baylor alumni Dr. John A. Wood (’53) and Patricia A. Wood (’54).
Basically, it is Tom’s process to create a tabletop blueprint of the final monument first. Thereafter, he enlarges the tabletop and sculpts it in the final size. Consequently, the tabletop is available for casting in bronze in all of it’s vivid detail. Thus, Robert’s tabletop was cast in bronze for the donors.
