Brooks Wallace National Shortstop Player of the Year Award Trophy

The Brooks Wallace Award was created for the College Baseball Foundation. This portrait bronze memorial of Brooks is the award presented annually to the outstanding shortstop in college baseball.  It has been awarded annually since 2004.
Until 2008, the award was on-a-par with the Heisman Trophy for college football. It was presented to the nation’s most outstanding player in the sport. Beginning in 2009, the recipient list was changed to recognize the top collegiate player at the shortstop position.
The Player of the Year Award was named for and honors former Texas Tech shortstop and player-coach Brooks Wallace, who died of leukemia in 1985 at the age of 27.  Brooks was known and respected for his admirable character both on and off the field.
Tom White was commissioned by the CBF to create this perennial award and dynamic trophy. Tom worked with Brooks’ family, including his brother, Larry Wallace, to create this moving tribute to Brooks.

Babe Ruth - the "Bambino" - Clay Maquette for future Portrait Monument

George Herman "Babe" Ruth, Jr. - the Sultan of Swat

This historic desktop portrait sculpture of The Babe. captures his sheer determination, his love of the game and his confidence. Tom depicts Babe Ruth during the time he attended training camp at Majestic Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. This was when he played for the Red Sox at the start of his illustrious career that spanned 22 seasons (1914-1935).

History:

George Herman “Babe” Ruth, Jr., (Feb. 6, 1895 – Aug. 16, 1948), remains one of the world’s greatest sports heroes. He was first a left-handed pitcher with the Boston Red Sox followed by a distinguished career as an outfielder with the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles. Tom sought to capture the Babe’s bold yet humble belief in himself and in his fellow man in this tabletop sculpture.

The Babe was a restless and ungrounded young man until he found a true “love” which, for the great Bambino, was baseball. His reach and contribution to the game is incaluable. He remains a G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) for his accomplishments. The are: baseball’s first 500-foot home run; one of the “first five” inducted into the inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame (1936), and the single-season and career home run title holder “Sultan of Swat” for more than half-a-century.

Tom felt a kindred spirit with The Babe for being restless and ungrounded in youth. He, like George, came from a jumbled and unsteady background only to find a passion that stabilized him.  For the Babe it was baseball. For Tom it was with God and through art. Tom knows what it is like to find the gifts inside that you were created to exercise in your lifetime. Tom, like most boys, grew up playing the game of baseball and often dreamed of aspiring to the success of the great Babe Ruth. However, Tom is thankful the Lord took him a different direction through sculpting, painting amd family.
