"Parable of the Sower & the Soils"
Christ’s parable in the New Testament is intricately depicted in this bronze tabletop sculpture — an inspired portrayal of both those who sow the gospel and the conditions of the hearts of those who hear the Word. Three sizes are available – 12″, 24″ and 1.33′ monumental size.
“And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown….
(T)hose seeds that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.” — Mark 4:15,20
— Mark 4:2-20
And Jesus was teaching them many things in parables….
“Listen! Behold, a Sower went out to sow.
And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it.
Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil.
And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away.
Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain.
And other seeds fell into good soil and produced grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.”
…And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable?… The Sower sows the word.”
Tom was asked by Franklin Graham, CEO of Samaritan’s Purse and of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to create a monumental bronze sculpture depicting Jesus’ parable of the Sower and the Soils. This was Tom’s vision of the whole parable depicting the hearts of men by the different types of soil. The monumental size sculpture was placed in Ruth’s Attic bookstore at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, NC. The vision for the statue was to visually portray both those who sow the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the conditions of the hearts of those who hear and receive or reject the Gospel, as explained by Jesus to his disciples in Mark 4.
Tom always creates a “blueprint maquette” of his larger sculptures which then is cast as a tabletop version of the final piece. Currently there are three sizes available: 12″, 24″ and 1.33 life-size (8 ft.) See Tom’s line of Biblical Tabletop Sculptures and Christ scenes in bronze.
