George Herman "Babe" Ruth, Jr. - the Sultan of Swat
Tom White created this historic desktop portrait sculpture of The Babe to depict the way he focused his sheer determination, his love of the game and his confidence. Babe is depicted in this sculpture around the time he attended training camp at Majestic Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas, back when he played for the Red Sox at the start of his illustrious career that spanned 22 seasons (1914-1935).
George Herman “Babe” Ruth, Jr., (Feb. 6, 1895 – Aug. 16, 1948), remains one of the world’s greatest sports heroes, first as a left-handed pitcher with the Boston Red Sox followed by a distinguished career as an outfielder with the New York Yankees (and Baltimore Orioles). Tom sought to capture his bold yet humble belief in himself and in his fellow man in this tabletop sculpture.
The Babe was a restless and ungrounded young man until he found that “love” which — for the great Bambino — was baseball. His reach and meaning can never truly be calculated, which is he remains a G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) for his accomplishments: baseball’s first 500-foot home run; one of the “first five” inducted into the inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame (1936), and the single-season and career home run “Sultan of Swat” for more than half-a-century.
Tom felt a kindred spirit with The Babe for being restless and ungrounded in youth, and coming from a jumbled and unsteady background only to find that “love” that stabilized him — like The Babe with baseball, Tom with God and with art. Tom knows what it is like to find the gifts inside that you were created to exercise in one’s lifetime. Tom, like most boys, grew up playing the game of baseball and often dreaming of aspiring to the success of the great Babe Ruth. However, Tom is thankful the Lord took him a different direction through sculpting and painting.
This desktop sculpture of Babe Ruth is available for casting in bronze. Call for information. It can also be enlarged for an outdoor setting at a baseball field statue.
