Christ Our Rock Statue
Our Lady of Victory Church, Tannersville, Pennsylvania

The Location:

Seen at the Coryell Community Church in Gatesville, Texas. There are towering white 70-foot crosses and rugged bleached boulders. These are the dramatic backdrop of prayer garden setting. Tom’s life-size statue of “Christ Our Rock” bronze Jesus statue and a pair of his “Children” statues are there. Dedicated Easter 2012.

What People Are Saying:

“The prayer garden gets more beautiful as time goes by. And so many continue to be drawn there. It seems that almost every time I go there to work, I stop to pray with a stranger that has come there with a heavy heart. Our Lord’s anointing spirit abides there. We are so blessed!” — Lenora Sappington, one of the garden designers (from email dated Sept. 6, 2012)

"Sami Swings" - Jesus Statue holds Sami

The Sorrow & the Hope:

Tugging at the heart of every parent is the love of one’s child. Losing a child is devastating, and Christ’s welcoming arms provide solace for a parent’s void. That is part of the inspiration for Tom’s “Sami Swings.” It is dedicated to young Samantha Ann “Sami” McDonald, who is now secure eternally with her Lord.

In this memorial bronze Christ sculpture scene, Tom captures Sami’s spirit, Also the holding power of Jesus’ hands. The statues are placed at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky, beneath the gnarled branches of an ancient wingnut tree on Sami’s gravesite.

A smiling Jesus statue holds the ropes of three-year-old Sami. The words to her favorite song, “Jesus Loves Me,” are etched in the granite rock beneath her bare feet.

Debi and Geoff McDonald, have treasured this Jesus and Sami sculpture ever since her accidental drowning in 2006. This is how they saw her earlier that fateful day—swinging and singing, “Jesus loves me, this I know…”

Sami’s mom, Debi, started the ministry
Sam’s Rock” to encourage parents who have lost their children. She is a much sought-after speaker.
