Dynamic bronze sculpture of the Murmillo type of gladiator during the Roman Imperial age carrying shield, sword and wearing a heavy helmet. Fighting stance with ax embedded into the shield. The murmillo-class gladiator was adopted in the early Imperial period to replace the earlier Gallus, named after the warriors of Gaul.
